e-paper displays på vej ind i industriapplikationer

Det tyske firma Gleicmann Electronics har lavet europæisk distributionsaftale med firmaet Pervasive Display, der er førende inden for e-paper displays (in english).

Following the successful market introduction of TFT displays from Chimei Innolux (CMI), Gleichmann Electronics is now also official pan-European sales partner for e-paper displays from Pervasive Displays, Inc.

Founded by Chilin Technology (the display systems business within the Chi Mei Group) Pervasive Displays, Inc. (PDI) is a pioneer in the area of industrial e-paper displays. PDI’s current product portfolio encompasses eight EPDs (EPD stands for 'Electrophoretic Display' and is commonly known as 'e paper'). The smallest of the standard products is the 1.44 inch (3.6 cm) panel and the largest product is the 10.2-inch (25.9 cm) panel.

Gleichmann Electronics offers a range of evaluation kits for an easy and quick entrance into the world of EPDs. With the help of these evaluation kits and without special prior experience, developers can create their own required display content on a PC and then transfer it quickly and reliably to the respective EPD module via USB.

Furthermore, a complete module (EPD 7.4-inch ECO-Sign) - including control system, integrated ZigBee transceiver and a built-in battery - is available from Gleichmann Electronics for the 7.4-inch (18.8 cm) e-paper display EPD CW74AS181.

- With their ultra-low power consumption, very good readability even in direct sunlight, wide vertical and horizontal viewing angles of almost 180° and high resolution of up to 160 dots per inch, the EPDs from Pervasive Displays are an ideal complement to our classic TFT and LCD product portfolio. In particular, EPDs are significantly superior to any other display technology in applications where greatest possible energy efficiency is required, explains Torsten Mindach, Line Manager at Gleichmann Electronics responsible for the marketing of EPDs from Pervasive Displays.

Berend Rietberg, Vice President of Business Development, EMEA at Pervasive Displays, Inc., believes that it is only a matter of time before EPDs, because of their technical advantages, will make their way on a large scale into industrial applications:

If required, Gleichmann Electronics can also provide the complete design-in including necessary customer-specific adaptations.
