NXP Semiconductors has announced its plans to add support for the Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in on its Android Things. This will work to reduce product time to market and enable developers to harness the power of the Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in.Android Things is a new version of Android aimed at enabling faster development of secure connected devices for the Internet of things (loT.) Android Things is a lightweight embedded OS that enables both local and cloud connectivity over multiple wireless protocols.
By supporting the Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in to Android Things pre-certified SOMs, NXP plans to enable Android developers to utilize their existing knowledge and technologies to productize new IoT applications and devices with a wider array of services and provide higher value to customers.
- Integrating voice and streaming audio services into a product can be a complex and difficult task for any developer. This will enable shorter time to market for our customers with feature rich products, says Geoff Lees, senior vice president and general manager of the microcontroller business line at NXP.
- Android Things has enabled us to get customers from product definition to ramping into production easily and seamlessly.
Powered by the i.MX 6UL/7Dual applications processors, the PICO-iMX 6UL and 7D boards from TechNexion and the Argon i.MX 6UL board from VVDN Technologies speed development and time to market for IoT products. All three boards have been qualified and tested by Google to run Android Things at optimal performance.
