Freescale Semiconductor is driving next-generation, multi-gigabit broadband access toward mainstream adoption with the industry’s first 10 Gbps Internet plus 10 Gbps Wi-Fi enabled home gateway solution.Freescale developed its new QorIQ LS1043A residential gateway in collaboration with Quantenna Communications. Coupled with open, Linux-based security, video streaming and networking applications, the platform enables dramatic boosts in bandwidth, throughput and quality of service.
The new Freescale solution leverages its quad-core QorIQ LS1043A processor based on 64-bit ARMv8 technology, together with Quantenna’s QSR10G 10G Wave 3 802.11ac Wi-Fi product family. T
his latest Quantenna product family can support up to 12 streams, and is based on its True 8x8 adaptive, multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) technology, which provides the flexibility and scalability to meet rising demand for home access points that can manage and support increasing numbers of Wi-Fi devices. The reference solution also features a 10 Gbps copper or fiber WAN connection enabled by the QorIQ LS1043A processor’s 10G Ethernet port.

The companies collaborated to leverage Quantenna’s Wi-Fi innovation, resulting in the ability to identify and categorize wireless and Internet traffic for streaming and time-sensitive priority - resulting in optimized gaming, video streaming and Internet voice quality, even under highly demanding usage conditions.

Freescale offers a full-featured Linux OpenWRT-based residential gateway Application Solution Kit (ASK), which implements low-level routing and security acceleration functions, and a CodeWarrior toolchain. With the ASK, customers can focus on their own application development and get to market more quickly.
The QorIQ LS1043A processor is sampling now. Freescale’s new LS1043A reference design is planned for availability in the fourth quarter of 2015.
