The element14 Community has welcomed its 200,000th registered member. As the go-to resource for design engineers around the world, the Community offers members a space to share project concepts, view exclusive content, read reviews and get expert advice, which can help see designs through from concept to production. Garnering more than 15.3 million visits since its launch four years ago, the Community registers 1,500 people per week and has a presence in more than 130 countries.

- The element14 Community is consistently the number one online resource for design engineers, and 200,000 members represents an important milestone as we continually increase the depth and breadth of ideas and content available, says Global Head of Community, element14, Dianne Kibbey.

- In conjunction with the milestone, we’re excited to examine a fun, hypothetical question that has appealed to sci-fi fans for years.

element14 engaged the Akron, Ohio-based hackerspace SYN/HAK to develop model versions of two famous deep space engineering phenomena. Affectionately named the si Org3 Ship and the Lifeless Spherical Space Station, the models were built using the Raspberry Pi and the Arduino board.

As part of the debate, the vehicles are filmed in a fictitious scenario to determine who would win if they faced off in an intergalactic feud. Visitors to the community can vote on their predicted winner here.
