Nye dual-mode Bluetooth moduler
Attlantik Elektronik introducerer Flaircomm's nye dual-mode Bluetooth moduler (in english).
By offering the dual-mode modules out of the BTM80x family, Atlantik Elektronik enables its customers to support traditional Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy concurrently.
The new Flaircomm modules are based on CSR’s CSR8000 family and can therefore rely on technology of the world-market leader in the area of Bluetooth. Additionally the customer benefits of Atlantik Elektronik’s year-long experience in Bluetooth implementations and applications.
The most important feature of the BTM80x family, now introduced by Atlantik Elektronik, is the capability to support dual-mode. This allows parallel usage of traditional Bluetooth (BT) 2.1, High-Speed Bluetooth (BT-HS) 3.0, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 4.0 with one module only.
Thus applications can be designed, which for instance communicate on one side with a couple of BLE sensors and exchange bigger sets of data on the other side using traditional Bluetooth. It’s also possible to realize audio applications where one connection to a mobile phone uses wideband speech, also known as HD-audio. Here, in addition communication with a remote control can be included.
With Flaircomm’s module family the customer can choose between different versions. The variants without an antenna shine with smallest dimensions of only 7 x 7 x 1.5 mm.
One option is the serial interface, so a host controller running the protocol can be connected to the module and the standardized HCI interface either via USB or UART.
Typically USB, which is realized on the BTM804 module, is widely spread in consumer applications such as Tablets or PCs. But it also becomes more popular in industrial applications. Still here especially in machine-to-machine (M2M) applications UART is the standard interface, which is available with the BTM805.
In addition, both modules are available as antenna module versions. These are literally an 'extension' of the original variants to 12 x 7 x 1.5 mm. As communication usually takes place in a near field of less than 10m, an optimized antenna tuning or direction is rarely required.
With their transmit power the modules belong to class 1.5 and can - armed with a sensitivity of -89dBm - cover a distance of typically 30 to 50m.
A special variant is the BTM801 which comes without antenna only. The BTM801 is based on the automotive chipset CSR8311 and offers UART as well as USB interface. Whilst already the BTM804 and the BTM805 can be operated within the wide temperature range of -30°C to +85°C, the BTM801 runs in the complete extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
Beside their specific characteristics and features, these products offer the typical advantages of modules: The design was reviewed, special additional components are already incorporated, very often the carrier board needs fewer layers, and most important: The modules are certified and approved.
On top Atlantik Elektronik gained excellent expertise in Bluetooth hardware and software due to its long-term cooperation with CSR. This leads to much faster project realization than without according support.
All this saves time and money on the customer side and results in an early market launch. The Flaircomm Bluetooth modules, documentation and according development kits are available at Atlantik Elektronik as of now.
