Forward Concepts, a leader in DSP and wireless market research is proud to announce the publication of its newest report,M2M/IoT MARKETS '15.The report provides market shares, market sizes, forecasts, analysis and trends for mobile cellular machine-to-machine M2M modules by technology, vertical markets, and region. North America and Europe are the key centers of mobile M2M module growth, but buoyed by significant investments in China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

 As for cellular, 2G remains the key foundation, comprising the majority of units shipped in 2014, though with the shift toward broadband technologies we expect 3G to grow to 40% of mobile M2M module revenue by 2018. LTE 5-year growth of 17% will be led by the automobile, smart TV, consumer, video surveillance, digital signage and wearable applications.

 Broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) is at the hub of the Wi-Fi IoT market and enjoyed a strong 2014, benefiting from a combination of technology shifts and the need to support not only legacy broadband services, but also increasing bandwidth.

Broadband operators are gaining significant traction in North America, Europe, Korea, and Japan, and they’re rolling out video gateways that combine Modems (DOCSIS 3.0, xDSL and LTE) with video transcoding capabilities. These Wi-Fi connected gateways allow companies to deliver whole-home, multi-screen services to customers, and we anticipate hearty growth for the devices over the next few years.

Wi-Fi enabled CPE gained much traction in 2014, half of all xDSL devices sold were Wi-Fi enabled, and we’re forecasting this to expand to 74% by 2019. The growth of Wi-Fi-enabled CPE is proof positive that service providers are quickly moving to more integrated devices to control the user experience in the home.
